Your AI,
keeping the books with you
At the end of a long day the numbers are in your head: three birds died in the layer house, 212 eggs, 40 kg of tomatoes off plot 2. Tell the Claude or ChatGPT you already use in one sentence and it writes them into Famu for you. It asks before every change, it can only do what your role can, and every change carries your name and its name.
"Log 3 deaths in Layers – March today." It finds the batch, reads back what it will save and waits for your yes.
A finished batch stays locked; a sale changes only within a day. Whatever your role cannot do in Famu, your AI cannot either.
A connected app only reads until you tick Allow changes for it. Untick it and the next change is refused.
Three switches, all on
Connecting an AI lets it read. Changing anything needs three separate yeses.
Your role needs Make changes under Connect your own AI. Only the admin role has it at first; the owner can give it to managers or workers on the Roles page. You tick Allow changes for each app, on the Allow page or later under Integrations → Connected AI apps, so connecting ChatGPT to ask questions never quietly lets it write. And Famu keeps a switch of its own to pause every AI's changes on a bad day, while reading carries on.
If any one is off, the change is refused, and your AI is told why so it can tell you. Flip them.
Say it once, check it, done
It looks up what it needs, reads the entry back to you, and saves only after you agree.
Your AI first asks Famu what it may change and what a daily log needs. Then it finds the batch you mean and tells you exactly what it is about to save. Claude and ChatGPT usually also ask you to approve a tool that changes something, so you see the change twice before it happens.
A mistake is fixed the same way: "that was 2 deaths, not 3". It changes only the field you named, and tells you what it was before and after. Step through it.
Only what your role could do
The change goes through the same checks as if you had tapped Save in Famu yourself.
Your AI changes records as you, so a worker's AI can log eggs but cannot record a sale, just as in the app. The farm's rules hold too: a completed batch is locked, and a sale can be changed only within a day of being recorded. Removing a customer, a worker, a pen or an animal archives it, because other records point at it; a log entry is deleted, and the Activity Log keeps what it was.
Some things it never touches, whatever your role: who has which role, who belongs to the farm, farm settings, billing, and photos or files. Those stay with a person, in Famu. Pick a role and a request.
Every change has two names on it
Yours, because you asked for it, and the app's, because it typed it.
In the Activity Log a change made through your AI reads "Grace Namusoke via Claude". The database writes that label from the connection itself, so nothing your AI sends can leave it off or change it. Under Integrations → Connected AI apps, What they did lists each entry it added, changed, deleted or archived.
A connected app can make at most 300 changes a day, a guard against an AI that gets stuck repeating itself. Untick Allow changes below and watch the next request.
The rules that keep it yours
Off until you tick it
A new connection only reads. Changes need your role's Make changes, Allow changes on that app, and Famu's switch on.
Never more than your role
Each change is checked by the database as you, with the farm's rules: locked batches, the one-day window on sales, your farm only.
Not who can do what
Roles, people, farm settings, billing and files are never changed by an AI, even an admin's. A person does that in Famu.
Marked, every time
The Activity Log shows each change as yours via the app, and What they did lists it on Connected AI apps.
Archive, not erase
Things other records point at are switched off and kept. A deleted log entry stays in the Activity Log.
Never from a support session
When Famu's team views your farm to help you, no AI can make changes as you. Only you can, from your own sign-in.
It types what you tell it
What it does not do
An AI can misunderstand. It reads every change back before saving: check the batch, the date and the number before you say yes, as you would with anyone writing in your books. What you tell it goes to the company behind it (Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT) under your own account and their terms.
It cannot add photos or files, approve a payroll run, publish a record, or close a batch with its summary in one step. Those are done in Famu. And it works on one farm: the one you are signed in to.
Earns its keep for
- Owners and managers who already talk the day through with Claude or ChatGPT
- Catching up a day's logs in one message instead of five screens
- Fixing a typo'd count without hunting for the entry
Does little for
- Photos, receipts and documents: add those in Famu
- Farms that don't use an AI app of their own: Famu's forms are quicker
