Know what water and power are costing you

Add your Yaka meter, borehole or water tank. Record what you buy or what the dial reads, and Famu says how long the units last and what one really costs.

1. Open Business → Water & Power and tap Add meter.
2. Say whether you BUY units (Yaka, a water bowser) or READ a meter (mains water, a borehole, a generator hour meter). Famu already knows the usual answer for each kind.
3. If the meter serves one place — a house, a paddock, a plot — say which pen it is, and every comparison narrows to what is in there instead of the whole farm.
4. Every time you buy units, record it — from the meter's page, or by ticking the meter on an ordinary expense. Put in how many units you bought as well as what you paid.
5. If you read a meter instead, tap Reading and type the number on the dial. Tick "new or reset meter" if it was replaced or has gone back to zero.
6. The meter's page then shows what it uses each day, what that works out at per bird, per animal, per litre of milk or per acre — whichever your farm keeps — and, for prepaid, roughly how many days of units are left.
7. Famu warns you when a meter suddenly uses far more than it usually does, which is often a leak or a drinker left running, and when prepaid units are about to finish.
